Energy Recovery Ventilation

Today’s homes are being built tighter, and more energy efficient. While this is great for conserving energy, the tighter the home, the more difficult it is to rid your space of unwanted and unhealthy contaminants.   Fortunately, there’s a solution. Installing an ERV will improve indoor air quality, boost HVAC efficiency, help with odor control, and modify the relative humidity levels in your home.

How Do ERVs Work?

Energy Recovery Ventilation Systems come equipped with two fans.  The first fan pulls fresh outside air into a home or building, while the second draws stale, polluted air out. When these two streams of air pass through the ERV, the system’s heat exchanger transfers heat and moisture from one airstream to the other. These systems are capable of transferring roughly 99 percent of the heat energy from the stale, outgoing air and apply it to the fresh, incoming air. This allows the ERV to provide your home with fresh air at a temperature that’s close to the temperature of the air already inside.
